Folding Bike Challenge: Day 3

Fromage!

Fromage!

Friday was intended to be an easy day. A late start with a photocall for the local press and then a relatively flat 50 mile ride to Chartres. It was not to be. The wind saw to that. Of course , typically the wind in Western Europe is from the South West. Today it was from the North East and gusting to 30 mph. The video shows how the group had learnt to work together to draft into the wind. However this was no help to one of our group, who despite the charming green wig awarded at dinner the night before, managed to get left behind.

As his plantive text to the organisers said, ‘Thank f**k for Garmin….’

However, by the afternoon, the sun was shining strongly and if the wind was still as tough, the prospect of a glass of wine outside the Cathedral beckoned. Arriving finally at the hotel, the realisation that I would never again feature on the cover of Vogue sunk in.
